I think that there needs to be more science and math education in this country.  Scientific thought has just been pushed aside.  I mean, I'm just sick of the ubiquitous attitude that it's an archaic way of thinking about the world.  Obviously reason (especially scientific reason) is the only way by which we will attain truth!  It's just a matter of convincing everyone of this...

*end bitter sarcasm*

Donald Rumsfeld is finally stepping down as Secretary of Defense!  This comes as great news to me.

Also, the Democrats have taken the house, but it looks like the Senate is too close to call.  It's not that I subscribe to either party or would chose the lesser of two evils (I'm not fond of ethical utilitarianism), but change just seems to be a positive thing at this point.

*Edit*  The Democrats also took control of the Senate.

I'm getting more excited about my classes, especially Russian literature.  Everything before the 19th century has been boring to me.  Not because it is, in itself, boring literature, but because this class juxtaposes it with the works of Pushkin, Dostoevsky, et al.  It's unfortunate that I'm still so busy that it's difficult to keep up with the required reading.

On the topic of literature, Christopher Tolkien has been compiling and editing another of his father's works.  It's supposed to come out soon, and needless to say, I'm very excited.

Sometimes it seems like I'll never have enough time to read all the books that I want to read.

New Beck album.  Yeah!

I've been extremely busy with school.  Putting forth more effort than just the minimum amount needed for an acceptable grade is a foreign idea to me.  I'm enjoying it, though.  And it will continue to get better, especially when I won't be taking any more lower level classes.  (As the difficulty of classes increases, my interest and motivation increase, and the number of typical, apathetic students decreases.)

I had a great weekend.  Monica came to visit, which was refreshing.  We've been fortunate enough to see each other about once every couple of weeks.  We went to Yo La Tengo with Josh on Saturday night.  Despite the annoying drunk girl that punched a guy in the face (and then ran away from security), it was a great show.  Pictures are a'coming.

Kent's personal quote of the weekend:  "I can't wait for the future!"

"It cannot be required that we should prove everything because that is impossible; but we can demand that all propositions used without proof should be expressly mentioned as such, so that we can see distinctly what the whole construction rests upon."
--Gottlob Frege
